Overview
PCOS is a common hormonal condition affecting ovulation. It’s typically diagnosed through a combination of irregular or absent periods, signs of higher androgen (male hormone) levels such as acne or excess hair growth, and sometimes cysts seen on ultrasound. PCOS is also closely linked with insulin resistance and weight, so it is best managed with both hormonal and metabolic health in mind.
Common signs and symptoms
- Irregular, infrequent or absent periods
- Acne or excess facial and body hair growth
- Difficulty losing weight, or weight gain
- Difficulty conceiving
